For the first time ever, engineers managed tomanufacture the constructive parts of a semi-trailer in one part by using CFC materials. Compared with conventional vehicles, the CFC vehicle is characterized by low weight and optimum hardness. The monocoque design has enabled an aerodynamic shaping, which reduces noise. Moreover, it allows the functional integration of chassis and body structures, such as passive safety elements and additional storage space in the chassis and in the front wall of the body. Functions that can only be integrated in conventional vehicle construction by using separate add-on pieces. Diesel consumption and CO2 emissions can be reduced due to the decreased empty mass, service life is increased due to less material wear, and environmentally dangerous corrosion protection measures such as hot galvanizing and KTL coating are rendered unnecessary.
